Malaysia has closed its borders to jambu air (rose apples) from Thailand following the discovery of Bactrocera correcta fruit fly during inspections of a consignment of fruit from that country.
According to a report by Malaysian national news agency Bernama the pest, also known as Guava fruit fly, is not currently in the country and poses a threat to fruit and vegetable crops there.
Agro-based Industry and Cooperatives Committee chairman Sabry Ah, warned importers against violating the ruling, adding that fruit brought in illegally would be destroyed or sent back to Thailand.
