Oranges help fight cancer

An orange a day could keep the doctor away, researchers have found.

US scientists said the fruit could help beat cancer after a study found limonin, a chemical found in all citrus fruits, can help protect against a range of cancers.

Results of tests revealed the chemical compound can reduce the spread of cancerous cells in humans.

Researchers also believe limonin can reduce cholesterol levels and they are hoping to begin large-scale human trials to monitor the effects of regularly drinking orange juice.

In lab tests on animals, and with human cells, the chemical was found to fight cancers of the mouth, skin, breast, stomach and colon.
