Chiquita has officially opened its new subsidiary for Greece and the Balkans - Chiquita Hellas.
The Athens-based company is taking over the distribution of Chiquita products throughout Greece, the Mediterranean, Balkan and Black Sea countries and will be headed by business director Athanasios Glinos.
In launching the subsidiary, Chiquita aims to achieve direct management of all commercial operations as well as to strengthen its multi-national image and to develop new business opportunities with major players locally.
Glinos also hopes to expand the Chiquita product range in his area and introduce a wider product range alongside the traditional banana offering to include kiwifruit, apples and pears.
Chiquita is already the banana market leader in Greece, with a 48 per cent market share and €33 million turnover in 2005.
