Devon’s Nearly Naked Veg Company is in line for another award having already been named the South West’s Enterprise of the Year in the Countryside Alliance’s annual awards.

Founder Ben Brunning launched the doorstep delivery scheme two years ago and now delivers about 180 boxes on a weekly basis to homes in the South Hams, Newton Abbot and parts of Cornwall.

He also supplies many pubs, restaurants and hotels in the region through the wholesale arm of the business.

Brunning, who said he was “delighted” to win the award, will be given the chance to win the national title when final judging takes place in the House of Lords on 30 March.

“This latest award is another feather in our caps and the team at Nearly Naked Veg is really pleased. It’s been an exciting few months with weekly deliveries increasing steadily, the wholesale part of the business doing as well and we’ve launched several exciting new initiatives too. Fingers crossed we will do well at the final at the end of the month,” he said.

Judge Alison Hawes said: “Everything sold is locally produced and the company has big plans to link up with other local producers, making Nearly Naked Veg a true enterprise with a lot to offer. Educating the next generation is also a big element of the business as Ben is passionate about teaching kids where their food comes from and helps them plant veg patches - the company also provides veg boxes direct to schools. Finally, this energetic young business has also formed a recent partnership with Plymouth Argyle Youth Team to encourage youngsters into sport. So much going on and so much yet to do, this is a great enterprise.”
