Cold-store specialist ICA has boosted its engineering and customer service team with several new appointments.

Aiden Abrahart has joined the firm as applications engineer, working directly with clients, while Andy Duff has re-joined as design engineer for detailed electronic systems.

Len Manning has been appointed to the role of engineering manager and will work on the new design of instruments, and research on the broader industry.

Manning will also focus on operations, production and quality control management systems in the business.

The news comes as ICA recently launched a new product to test fruit condition in DCA storage using an enclosed representative sample within the store.

Safepod is a small enclosure that contains around 60kg fruit, and can be isolated from the wider room atmosphere to test the respiratory quotient (RQ) of the fruit at different gas levels. The pod can be integrated into existing or new ICA6000 control systems.

Already installed for top-fruit grower AC Goatham’s Howt Green farm, there are also three Safepod chambers at East Malling Research, and a further 30 sets supplied through a joint venture to laboratories across the US.
