G's Tesco beetroot varieties

Alan Christie has been praised for keeping the organisation innovative, and his tenure oversaw the release of stripy and golden varieties of beetroot

Alan Christie is set to depart as G’s Group CEO.

After eight years of service, Christie will leave G'son 31 January.

While Christie has been instrumental in mapping out G's strategical position going forward, the business has decided to split the role of Group CEO into three leadership positions in G’s Fresh, G’s Added-Value, and G’s Farming.

John Shropshire, group chairman at G's, said:“Alan has fundamentally changed the way we do business in G’s through his leadership and commercial acumen.

'In Spain he introduced a new business strategy which substantially grew sales by extending our customer base in Europe year round. Through Alan’s leadership, everyone is encouraged to think differently, take responsibility and believe in themselves.

'Alan is credited for introducing a successful group lean, mechanisation and innovation programme, introducing a culture of continuous improvement and supply chain efficiency.'

Christie has worked in the majority of G’s businesses; he started his career in G’s as MD of G’s Fresh Vegetables, which was soon extended to include G’s joint venture business in the Czech Republic, and chairman of G’s Fresh Beetroot.

Christie then moved to Spain, where he worked for four years as MD for the European arm of the business, before returning to the UK as CEO of G’s Group Holdings.

Shropshire added: 'The G’s business thanks Alan for the positive impact he has had on the G’s business, and wishes him all the best in the next phase of his career.'
