British Tomato Week has kicked off with a cookery school held at the prestigious training establishment Le Cordon Bleu in central London.

The Tomato Growers' Association were also invited back to the Palace of Westminster for the state opening of parliament, where House of Commons cooks prepared dishes made from British tomatoes.

Six new recipes were created for the promotional week by chefs from the greatbritishchefs.com website, which were replicated by enthusiastic amateur chefs at the cookery school – including members of the TGA, as well as food writers and bloggers.

TGA chair Patrick Harte said: “It is our job to keep our superb product at the forefront of consumers’ minds and British Tomato Week provides us with the perfect platform.

'This year we have held some very exciting activities for British Tomato Week; a chef school in London focused on the British Tomato, we were at the houses of parliament to shout’ about our tomatoes and kick-off a campaign with six superb tomato based recipes designed by some of the best chefs in the Britain.”
