Produce World has raised more than £7,000 for local hospice Thorpe Hall after a raft of fundraising events such as cake sales, cycle rides, and money in lieu of speaking fees or landmark birthdays.

Thorpe Hall, the Peterborough-based Sue Ryder hospice, was selected as the company’s charity of the year for 2015/16. Produce World team members have also helped convert an area of derelict land belonging to the hospice back into a kitchen garden, as well as the fundraising efforts.

Rachel Ilgunas, Produce World CSR and agronomy administrator, said: “Thorpe Hall do fantastic work throughout the East of England in supporting patients and families during their last days.

“We have been proud to support them during the past year. It is particularly gratifying to see the kitchen garden being put to good use. They are now growing vegetables and keeping chickens, but more importantly it provides a haven for patients, relatives and workers at Thorpe Hall.”

Nilesh Patel, of Thorpe Hall, said the hospice’s links with businesses in the region are vital to the care it provides. “We are very grateful for the support Produce World has given us which has enabled us to not only develop our Kitchen Garden, but also provide hundreds of hours of care for our patients and their families. and will allow us to care for many more in the future,” he said.
