Chinese e-tailer Alibaba Group has launched an online platform to help brands fight sales of counterfeit products.
The Intellection Property (IP) Joint-Force System will allow brands access to an online portal and management system to streamline the process to remove counterfeit products from Alibaba’s Taobao and Tmall sites.
“The IP Joint-Force System is a revolutionary industry solution that will redefine how IP enforcement is conducted in the digital age, where brands and e-commerce marketplaces must work collectively and strategically to combat counterfeiters,”Matthew Bassiur, Alibaba’s head of global IP enforcement, said in a statement released 1 July.
Alibaba launched the system at Alibaba’s Rights Holders Collaboration Summit in Hangzhou, China on 1 July, building on its ‘Good-Faith Takedown Programme’ that was launched last year.
The IP Joint-Force System allows Alibaba and brands to communicate through the new online portal, with Alibaba able to alert brands to suspicious listings, and brands then able to alert Alibaba if IP rights have been violated.
“This two-way communication stream is critical in creating a feedback loops that will continue to improve the speed and accuracy at which Alibaba is able to determine the authenticity of a product,” the company said.
“As the leading online marketplace, we have a responsibility to all of our constituents to govern our platform and find innovative solutions,” added Jessie Zheng, Alibaba’s chief platform governance officer.
