Following the success of Asia Fruit Logistica 2025 in Hong Kong, the second edition of China Meet Up took place on 8-9 September at the Haizhu International Convention & Exhibition Center in Guangzhou.

China Meet Up is one of Asia Fruit Logistica’s series of Meet Up events in 2025. Asiafruit China served as the official Knowledge Partner.

The Guangzhou event followed on from Meet Ups earlier this year in India, Vietnam and Thailand, and the final stop is the Peru Meet Up, taking place in Lima on 28-29 October.

As the official knowledge partner, Asiafruit China curated a two-day content programme featuring leading organisations and companies.

With Guangzhou hosting the event, the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was one of the central topics. In the opening session on 8 September, Wu Weihua, deputy director of Guangzhou Municipal Commerce Bureau, shared insights into Guangzhou’s strategy to build its role as a hub for imported fruit. Yang Peng, product director at Joy Wing Mau Group, also outlined the opportunities and challenges for the region both as a logistics corridor for the trade and a premium consumer market.

The future of wholesale market channels was also a headline theme on Day One. Ma Zengjun, president of the China Agricultural Wholesale Market Association, Lai Yongjin, deputy general manager of Guangzhou Jiangnan Market, and Wang Xianjian, deputy general manager of Shanghai Huizhan Market, all joined the session to share their expert perspectives on the transformation of wholesale channels in China and the growth opportunities ahead.

Consumers and marketing were in focus on Day Two. Tina Qin, new business group director at Worldpanel China, shared the latest insights into China’s fresh food consumer trends. Robin Zhang, general manager of Shenzhen Huaxin, discussed commercial development of IP varieties and used case studies to demonstrate the keys to unlocking an exclusive product’s market value. Fresh from winning ‘Marketing Campaign of the Year’ at the Asia Fruit Awards during this year’s Asia Fruit Logistica, Li Yang, national sales director of Dole China, presented on “elevating fruit marketing in China”.

The two-day forum also featured sessions spotlighting Peru and Ecuador as key Latin American suppliers, as well as discussions on premium vegetables (Rijk Zwaan), building regional brands (Korla Fragrant Pears Association), and intellectual property protection (Baker McKenzie FenXun).

Additional excitement with China Study Tour and Golf Cup

This year’s China Meet Up introduced several new features to provide additional value for participants.

One highlight was the China Study Tour, which took place on 6-7 September. The two-day field trip took participants deep into China’s fresh produce supply chain with visits to Sam’s Club in Shenzhen, Joy Wing Mau’s headquarters, and Guangzhou Jiangnan Market.

Another highlight was the inaugural AFL Fresh Produce Reemoon Golf Cup took place on 6-7 September at Lion Lake Golf Club in Qingyuan, Guangdong. The tournament was made possible with the generous support of title sponsor Reemoon, platinum sponsor Gold Anda, and gold sponsors Zespri, Joy Wing Mau, and Kawana Durian. It provided a unique opportunity for global industry leaders to combine sport, social networking and the spirit of the fruit business.

To maximise value for professional buyers, China Meet Up also introduced the new Premium Buyer Pass, providing exclusive privileges and customised services to support efficient business matching and networking. The programme offered a suite of benefits including two-day access to the China Meet Up, a night’s hotel accommodation, and a VIP invitation to the Networking Dinner on 8 September, bringing together more than 400 senior industry executives.

Next stop: Peru Meet Up

With its strong international participation, high-calibre programme and diverse networking activities, China Meet Up 2025 once again demonstrated its unique value as a flagship event for China’s fruit trade. The event not only built a bridge between Chinese and global players but also laid a solid foundation for Asia Fruit Logistica 2026, which takes place on 2-4 September in Hong Kong.

The Meet Up series now heads to its final stop in Lima, Peru for the Peru Meet Up on 28-29 October. Co-organised with Fruit Logistica and Fruitnet, the Peru Meet Up connects Latin American exporters with leading buyers from Asia and across the world.
