Approval comes after more than two years of technical coordination 

Egypt has gained access to the Vietnamese market for the export of fresh onions and garlic following more than two years of technical coordination and the approval of Egypt’s phytosanitary measures.

The announcement comes ahead of the new export season and as part of the political leadership’s directives to open new international markets and support Egyptian farmers and exporters. 

Egypt’s minister of agriculture and land reclamation, Alaa Farouq, said the agreement was also in line with the ministry’s strategy to expand access for Egyptian agricultural exports into Asian markets.  

Mohamed El-Mansi, head of the central administration of agricultural quarantine that reviews technical coordination technical coordination said that technical information had been issued and circulated to inspectors and exporters to ensure full compliance with required international standards. 

He added that opening the Vietnamese market is expected to boost Egypt’s exports of onions and garlic, given the strong reputation of Egyptian products. 

According to official data released by the Agricultural Quarantine, global demand for Egyptian onions and garlic has been increasing, with Egypt’s exports reaching about 288,000 tonnes of fresh onions and 45,000 tonnes of fresh garlic by the end of 2025, shipped to a number of countries worldwide.
