PT, PTT, Bangchak, and Susco customers to receive 1kg of free mangoes from growers in Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces
Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Internal Trade, has partnered with four major petrol stations to distribute over 2,000 tonnes of mangoes from growers in the northern regions of Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces.
The campaign will see customers of PT, PTT, Bangchak, and Susco receive 1kg of free mangoes when they fill up with 300 baht worth of petrol between June 6 and 8.
“The distribution will start in Bangkok and its vicinity, covering nine provinces and more than 1,097 branches to help farmers distribute their produce and push prices up,” said Witthayakorn Maneenet, director-general of the Department of Internal Trade.
The petrol stations will distribute a range of Jin Hong mangoes, Red Emperor mangoes, Red Ivory mangoes, and R2E2 mangoes which have grown in abundance this season due to favourable weather.
“This is a good opportunity for many people who have never tasted the four varieties of fancy mangoes,” Witthayakorn said. “Each mango variety has a different taste. The highlight is its physical characteristics, with a relatively thick skin that is suitable for transportation and is not easily bruised. The flesh is firm and chewy.”
According to Witthayakorn the Department of Internal Trade will expand its distribution efforts to other fruit later in the season.
“This is our first step in helping with fruit production this year and we plan to expand with other types of fruit products,” he said. “I would like to emphasise that Thai fruits grown in Thailand are no less than any other country in the world.”
