Authorities from both countries signed a bilateral work plan outlining the terms for the fruit’s entry into the Philippines

Fresh Peruvian Hass avocados have gained access to the Philippines after a bilateral work plan was signed between the two countries, establishing the phytosanitary procedures and requirements for export.

Representatives from Peru’s National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA), an agency attached to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), and the Philippines’ Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) signed the work plan on 21 October at a bilateral meeting aimed at deepening agricultural collaboration, particularly in plant health and market access.

“This new achievement reaffirms international confidence in Peru’s phytosanitary system and opens opportunities for our Hass avocado producers, who maintain high health standards recognised in major markets around the world,” said head of MIDAGRI, Vladimir Cuno Salcedo.

According to the work plan, SENASA will send the Philippine authorities a list of certified production sites and packing plants, which will be permanently monitored for quarantine pests, ensuring the traceability and quality of each shipment.

During the bilateral meeting held in Manila, Philippines, the progress of the the risk analysis for Peruvian table grapes and citrus fruits was also discussed.

“This is an important step in the strategy to open new markets for Peruvian agricultural exports. At SENASA, we continue to strengthen our surveillance, certification, and phytosanitary control efforts, ensuring that Peruvian agricultural products meet the highest international standards,” said SENASA head Vilma Gutarra.

The BPI said the milestone reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to international standards and said the entry of Peruvian avocados would help diversify the country’s agricultural imports, providing consumers with more options.
