West Sussex consumers are being invited to look behind the scenes at some of the county's leading horticultural businesses.

More than 15 prominent growers within West Sussex Growers' Association (WSGA) are throwing open their nursery gates on September 23.

The association is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year with an open invitation for people to find out how the county's finest plants and fresh produce are grown.

Consumers will be able to taste tomatoes, see herbs being grown, discover the origins of many garden plants and watch compost being made.

WSGSA annually challenges school children to grow a pot chrysanthemum, with prizes due to be presented on September 23 by Blue Peter Gardener Chris Collins. The presentations are likely to take place at Yoder Toddington, Littlehampton.
