Jim Culbertson, executive manager of the California Cherry Advisory Board in the US reported that fruit quality and size are excellent with the season at its peak for the next week.

The variety is characterised by large, dark red cherries out of California which have an above average fruit-to-stone ratio and are grown in the state's central valley. Neil Gordon, ceo of NMG Consulting which is responsible for marketing the fruit in the UK said: 'We will have a major presence for California Bing in many supermarkets in the next three weeks. British consumers like the big, juicy reds and are prepared to pay premium prices.'
