The central and eastern European contingent at next year’s Fruit Logistica in Berlin will be strengthened by a number of companies looking to explore new business opportunities or joint ventures.

More than 100 exhibitors from central and eastern Europe, including EU members Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, as well as Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, Russia and other non-EU countries, will be presenting a wide variety of products and services to an international audience of buyers and trade professionals next year.

More than 50,000 trade visitors from 120 countries are expected to attend the event.

Hungary is looking to strengthen its produce associations, which currently account for 20 per cent of total sales in the Hungarian fruit and vegetable sector, with an aim to reach 40 per cent by the end of 2010.

Russian firm Baltfruit uses its own transport fleet to supply chain stores and retail outlets throughout Russia and is looking to increase its international business, while Polish businesses are looking outside Europe for partners.

Businesses from Serbia and Croatia will also be looking to continue a successful 2008 with an increased marketing presence.
