This year’s Fruitnet Tomato Congress takes place in Malaga, Spain, on 11-12 November, with industry experts set to explore how the business is likely to evolve in the coming years
Registrations have opened for what’s shaping up to be an unmissable event for those preparing to stay at the forefront of the tomato business.
Fruitnet Tomato Congress is back on 11-12 November 2025, this time in Malaga, Spain, for a day of discussions and networking, followed by a day of production tours – all with a focus on the future of tomatoes.
Expert speakers, including Rabobank’s Lambert van Horen, Fatiha Charrat of Moroccan producer Delassus and leaders from the Spanish tomato category, will explore how issues such as climate change and logistical crises are giving rise to rapid changes in production, as well as to the sourcing strategies of Europe’s retailers and importers.
David Del Pino of consultancy Freshtrategy and Andriy Yarmak, formerly at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), will explain what these developments mean for production and supplies in Europe, as well as in key growing regions in North Africa, the Mediterranean and Central Asia.
We ask producers, retailers, seed companies and analysts what the tomato of 2030 will look like in terms of taste, nutrition, sustainability, packaging and branding, and how consumer demand will continue to lead the evolution of the market.
Jordi Ballester from Letitout Food Creativity will discuss the creation and design of exciting new tomato concepts, while Chris Veillon of Canada’s Topline Farms will share insights from recent tomato taste trials, with both offering a glimpse into the future of tomato branding.
Attendees will also hear how the efforts of seed firms to develop higher resistance to viruses and pests are breeding success, and how technologies including robots and AI are expected to shape the future of tomatoes in the coming years.
