Foodservice provider Coastline is on course with its expansion plans, following the acquisition of fresh food wholesaler GJ Jones and Sons in Kent.

The inclusion of Kent brings the total number of southern counties Coastline covers to 10, serviced by a fleet of 36 vehicles covering 24 territories, and also gives the company the opportunity to explore the burgeoning London market. After opening a brand new outlet on the Isle of Wight at the beginning of 2008, Coastline turned its attention to expanding into Kent and the surrounding areas.

Managing director Chris Lewis said: “After continued expansion of our client base, having a physical presence in a key territory such as Kent is extremely important to maintain our high standards of customer service and support”.

Coastline is keen to get behind local growers and suppliers and support the county’s fresh produce industry. Simon Jones of GJ Jones said: “Moving GJ Jones & Son under a bigger umbrella creates a more efficient supply chain which benefits from all the back-up and expertise that Coastline can provide.”

Lewis said: “To ensure that the consumer gets a wholesome fresh product we take greatest care to only select producers and suppliers who offer the quality and level of food safety that we require, and we check to make sure that our standards are being upheld."

The Coastline delivery service stretches from its premises in Christchurch to Sevenoaks and Newbury, and all the way to Torquay in Devon. Coastline’s fleet of vehicles ranges from seven and a half tonnes to small vans for rapid response deliveries. The firm’s current range includes fresh, frozen and prepared fruit and vegetables, all exotic fruit and vegetables, chilled distribution, fresh herbs and non foods such as bar and floor care, catering, janitorial, house keeping and table covers.
