British Farmers are to take advantage of the prime advertising space that they own by using fields near major roads to display the little red tractor logo. More than 200 banners have been issued to enable farmers to use their unique roadside position to promote the British farm Standard direct to shoppers as they drive round the countryside. Each of the NFU's county chairmen has also been sent a banner and they are helping to identify suitable sites to display the logo. The three metre wide banners display the red and blue tractor, which stands for food that has been produced to strict animal welfare, environment and health standards. NFU deputy president Tim Bennett said: "Farmers are in a unique situation of having prime advertising space in their backyards at their deposal. Now this year's harvest is nearly over, those sites are becoming more readily accessible." One of the most prominent sites will be over the M40, near Banbury, on the farm of dairy and cereal producer Bob Pick. "We aim to make the most of this to raise awareness of the British Farm Standard among the public," added `Mr Bennett. "The logo is out there in the shops with the number of product lines increasing all the time. Now the onus is on the farming industry to make sure shoppers recognise the logo and know what it stands for - food they can trust."
