Free tuition at Writtle

Free places on horticultural courses are being offered at Writtle College for people who do not yet have a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.

Places are still available for a September 2007 start for those aged 19 or over and undertaking their first full Level 2 qualification, or to those aged 19-25 taking their first full Level 3 qualification on a full or part-time basis.

Writtle explained that the free tuition for Level 2 comes as part of the Skills Strategy White Paper (2003) ‘21st century skills: Realising our potential’, while free tuition for level 3 falls under the Department for Education and Skills 2006 initiative ‘Further education, Improving life chances.’

Both of these initiatives were created to help encourage unskilled or low skilled adults to gain useful employment skills. Horticulture is one of several subjects on offer at Writtle under the scheme.

Meanwhile Writtle will also be opening its doors at its College Garden Open Day on July 15. A wide selection of summer flowering plants will be on show, with Writtle one of the earliest to open up under the National Gardens Schemes.
