Herbs Unlimited based near Thirsk, North Yorkshire is expanding its herb range and packhouse operations.

The Herbs Unlimited has introduced a new range of home grown “speciality herbs” including lemon verbena, Blackcurrant sage, Pineapple mint, Lemon grass, Celery leaf, Hyssop, savory , lime, chocolate basil and banana mint. Basils have ranged from lime to lemon, Thai and Greek . Garlic chives as well as edible flowers.

Founder Alison Dodd organised a “cook in” with Stephanie Moon, consultant chef and Great British Menu contestant.

The event, which took place on Tuesday, saw chefs help wholesalers and food processors to generate new and innovative ideas and uses for these herbs.

Dodd said: “High quality products has always been our aim for the top end of the catering market and food processors. We feel that herbs have become much more widely used in the past few years and it is time to introduce some more exciting flavours into the food market.”

The “cook in” event coincides with the completion of a new packhouse extension to help the business expand and improve quality. This has partly been funded by Rural Development Programme for England and includes a larger cold storage area and packhouse for the developing business.

Herbs Unlimited have two acres of polytunnels and 80 acres of field crops and deliver fresh herbs throughout the North of England and into London.
