Revenues are expected to increase this year by around 10 per cent for Israeli avocado growers.

Approximately 80,000 tonnes of avocados are expected to be harvested in Israel this year, of which 55,000t is to be exported, according to the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute.

Israeli avocado growers reportedly anticipate a revenue of Shk165 million (€28.7m) from the avocado harvest, which has just got underway.

In a press release, Ilan Eshel, director of the Organization of Fruit Growers in Israel, said that revenues would be 10 per cent greater than last year, mainly due to the increased value of the euro against the shekel and the improved quality of the harvest.

Mr Eshel also predicted that prices of avocados on the domestic market would be higher this season.
