Work in progress at Lincolnshire Herbs

Specialist herb grower Lincolnshire Herbs has begun building work on a major new mechanised packhouse thanks to a Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) grant of £400,000.

The total cost of the latest investment at the Bourne-based company is £1.4 million. This week the roof was due to go onto the new building, which is being constructed on land acquired next to the firm’s existing premises. It will provide temperature-controlled conditions for potted herbs, from harvest to dispatch. The new facility, which is expected to be fully operational by September, will be able to handle future organic growth.

MD Patrick Bastow told freshinfo: “We will have robots to take plants out of trays and put sleeves on. They can then be labelled and put into trays or boxes depending on supermarket requirements. It will all be mechanised... [but] there will be no job losses.”
