MP's business buys food 'too ugly' for supermarkets

A Kent MP has launched Ugly Food - a new company to buy food rejected by supermarkets on aesthetic grounds and sell it to consumers.

Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, Sandwich & the Villages said her food, including produce, would be branded Ugly Food under the strap-line Tasty But Not Perfect - Just Like You!

Sandys said the venture is in response to the UK’s dependence on imports, the impact of food inflation on consumers and waste.

She said: “Action is needed now. Government needs to promote greater domestic production of food, we need to impose a food security obligation on supermarkets and most importantly we need to address waste throughout the supply chain.”
