A number of new bedding varieties will be on show during the RHS/Ball Colegrave National Flower Bed Competition at the upcoming Tatton Park flower show.

New plants in the beds will include Angelonia ‘Serena’, Argyranthemum ‘Madeira’, Calibrachoa ‘Cabaret’, Geranium ‘Designer’, Impatiens ‘Fanfare’, Petunia ‘Easy Wave’, Verbena ‘Aztec’ and Zinnia ‘Zesty’.

Among the most notable entries are Carlisle City Council’s inaugural effort, which will use bedding plants to celebrate the city’s Citadel railway station, while their compatriots in Cheshire are creating a floral Venetian scene reminiscent of Lord Egerton’s ‘Grand Tour’ of Italy.

Naseby Residents’ Association (pictured) have produced a three dimensional scene of the Battle of Naseby.

Ball Colegrave’s Stuart Lowen paid tribute to the quality of the entries, pointing out: “One of the changes this year is the increasing boldness of the designs, as boundaries and possibilities are stretched, which has resulted in a growing trend for ambitious 3D bedding designs.”
