A number of companies are promising new products and services for the fruit sector at this year’s Fruit Focus.

Verpakkingen BV has a range of growing containers for protected crops, including a new trough for raspberries. The containers are made of sturdy polypropylene and have a lifespan of around eight years.

Trellising and fencing firm Gripple will be showcasing a new tensioner, the Gripple Plus. The chief improvement to the original product is said to be a ceramic roller that gives better grip for modern hightensile wires and is corrosion resistant and longer lasting.

Syngenta Bioline will be displaying Anderline, the commercial name for its strain of Amblyseius andersoni. Syngenta says that it is more active at lower temperatures that alternative two-spotted mite predators.

Becker Underwood will have its nematode products on display, namely Nemaslug for slug control and Nemesis L and Nemisis H to fight vine weevil.

Audit providers CMi will be on hand to discuss the latest developments in an areas that has become something of a hot topic this year. “New standards are coming out every year,” said commercial manager Grace O’Dwyer. “The ‘MOT’ for sprayers is just one example, which this year the Assured Produce Scheme owners have decided to make compulsory for their growers.”

On the subject of sprayers, Micron Sprayers will exhibit its Flexidome model, which has been designed for low volume, drift-free application of herbicides between strawberry beds. It is part of the firm’s Environmist range for orchard and soft fruit.
