Leading Israeli exporter Agrexco has experienced a rise in demand for organic fruits and vegetables, resulting in a sharp increase in exported quantities.

According to Agrexco, Israeli agriculture was one of the first to identify a “green trend” and its implications and believes that this gives the company a remarkable advantage that is reflected in its position in European marketplaces.

Edith Shalev, head of Agrexco’s branch in Germany, said that the fact that Israel started to use organic methods in 1983 and is almost pioneers of this trend, adds to the credibility of Israeli organic produce and its quality.

The German market has seen a huge increase in demand for fresh fruit and vegetables and is considered as the “capital of the organic trend” by some. Agrexco believes that, considering Germany’s geographical position in the centre of Europe, the trend will continue to grow through other European countries, adding to the sector’s growth.
