Political pundit to open Re:fresh Conference

At a time when politics is arguably as misunderstood as ever, the Re:fresh Partnership has secured one of the UK’s top political commentators to open its 2010 conference.

Iain Dale, a broadcaster and widely followed blogger, will headline Re:fresh on 13 May, which is likely to be shortly after the country has gone to the polls.

Dale will provide his own inimitable take on what the decision means in the corridors of Whitehall, how it will affect the UK population and, importantly for our delegates, what impact it will have on the produce industry.

Re:fresh will also attempt to rebalance the Buy British debate and consider the role of the industry in redefining consumer perspectives on fruit and veg.

Nigel Jenney, ceo of the Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC), said: “There’s an inordinate amount of national media coverage on ‘buy local, eat seasonal’. Yet more than 60 per cent of our fresh produce is imported, allowing consumers to enjoy produce that cannot be grown in the UK. With our speaker panel, we aim to put this in the wider context of the need to ensure the UK’s food security and to encourage consumers to have a healthy diet.”

Buy British will also undoubtedly feature among the consumer trends analysed by Michael Freedman, senior consumer analyst at IGD, who will advise the industry on its future direction.

The Re:fresh Conference and Awards is a partnership between the FPC and FPJ. This year’s event takes place on 13 May at the InterContinetal London Park Lane. To book your place and take advantage of our BOGOF delegate offer, go to www.refresh.eu/register
