Rago, the second largest exporter of wild rocket in Europe, is now using an innovative post-harvest harvester, as part of its corporate strategy to invest in the future.

The harvester has a horizontal blade beneath the machine to cut the remaining stalks to uniform height to ensure uniform re-growth. An integral part of this machine is a giant vacuum cleaner, which removes the clippings and any debris. This reduces the possibility of mould and mildew from decaying foliage. The process also reduces the amount of pest in the field thereby reducing the need for pesticides.

Rago is one of the few growers in Italy that use a vacuum cooler. This enables the company to harvest early in the morning and have the product in transit by the afternoon, providing stronger, healthier product with additional shelf life.

Rago is a forward thinking sixth generation family of growers with a passion for farming. Specialising in baby leaf products such as rucola, spinach, red and green batavia, lambs lettuce, red chard, red mustard and many specialty items such as herbs and Pac Choi.
