Scottish herb grower and supplier Scotherbs is considering major expansion plans at its Longforgan site, with investment in five acres of glasshouses.

Plans are still at a very early stage, but Scotherbs is attracted to the idea because it could potentially extend the season. Laura Paterson, marketing manager, said: “The majority of our production is open-field or under tunnels so with this initiative, which is still at a very, very early stage, we would be hoping to extend the season for mint and chive. It might give us five weeks at either end of the season.”

The company, founded by Robert, pictured, and Sylvia Wilson supplies Tesco, Asda, a number of large Scottish wholesalers, and processing companies supplying ready meals. It moved into a new packhouse in January this year; the result of a “seven-figure investment”, Paterson said.

Scotherbs’s product range covers 36 different herbs and leaves, many of them available year-round.
