Steve's Leaves hit the mainstream

Steve’s Leaves branded bagged salads have hit the shelves at Budgens.

The brand, launched earlier this year after eight months in development, includes a number of exclusive packs including Super Hot Rocket, Baby Watercress, Wild Red Rocket and Pea Shoots.

These are grown using an environment-aware method known as the Nature Friendly Farming standard, in which 10 per cent of the land is dedicated to preserving nature and once picked, the product is washed in spring water.

Hugh Griffiths, head of marketing at Steve’s Leaves, told FPJ: “This is the first season that we have had the brand, which has been on the shelves since March. Initially, we are targeting what we call beacon outlets, or retailers recognised for their excellence in food.

“The brand is still small scale, based around the London area and stocked in the likes of John Lewis food halls, Partridges and Harvey Nichols.

“The move into Budgens is our first into a more mainstream retailer and sales have gone extraordinarily well.

“We have put a lot of thought into the things that we believe consumers value from a prepared salad perspective, then turned that into packaging and a design that conveys these messages to consumers. Each of the products is unique and different from what you can get in an own-brand range.”

Paul Morgan from Budgens added: “Our retail outlets have stocked Steve’s Leaves because the products deliver truly innovative flavours, they are presented in funky small bags and all the leaves are farmed and prepared to the highest standards.”
