Sun World apricots target UK

US Fresh produce development and production company Sun World International hopes to target the UK market with a clutch of new apricot varieties it is launching next month.

The varieties expand the Honeycot branded line to a six-week season and will be harvested in California from early May.

"We have great hopes for Suaprinine and Suapriten for the UK market," said Sun World’s David Marguleas.

The varieties are also being trialed in a number of other regions including France, south-eastern Spain, northern Italy, Chile, Australia and South Africa.

Two other new Honeycot varieties - Suapriseven and Suaprieight - are at an earlier stage of development with plant material recently arrived in Europe and still in quarantine.

All four types share striking size, blush, taste and aroma characteristics and extend the Honeycot season.
