Tesco is responding to demand for its organic range this year by sourcing new products and adding to its existing range of 1,200 lines.

This summer the supermarket is expecting to sell up to 50,000 punnets of British organic strawberries a week, one third more than last year. It is expecting to sell 20,000 punnets of British organic raspberries an increase of up to 40 per cent year-on-year.

Tesco business planning manager Christy Van Maanenberg, said: “There is no longer a stereotypical organic shopper. The market continues to grow apace and new ranges together with better availability, continue to attract new customers into the area.”

Tesco will also mark National Organic Week (September 4 - 11) with price reductions and promotions. The move follows last year’s successful campaign.
