Innovation is aimed at helping kids keep hydrated and eat healthier
Tesco has launched a watermelon pizza kit to help kids get closer to their 5 A Day.
The kit, which is aimed at three to nine year-olds, consists of six wedges of watermelon, a sachet of Greek yoghurt and a sachet of fruit berry coulis which youngsters then go and make as they wish in the style of a pizza.
Priced at £3.75, the kits have been brought to market by Tesco product development manager Fay Hasnip.
“Getting kids to eat fruit as part of their 5 A Day is never the easiest of tasks,” she said. “We love the idea of a watermelon pizza-making kit as it makes eating joyful. Having tested the concept with our own families, we are sure it will delight young and old alike.”
Tesco nutritionist Natasha Maynard added: “Staying hydrated throughout the day can help prevent dehydration. Water and milk are great options for children. As well as drinks, we also get some fluids from the foods we eat. Watermelon, for example, has a high-water content and counts towards your 5 A Day.”
