Xmas tree advice for public

The British Christmas Tree Growers’ Association has released a new fact sheet offering members of the public its top tips on this Christmas’ tree trends.

The sheet offers advice on tree care, as well as how to ‘do your bit’ for the environment.

The sheet gives advice on the season’s ‘trendiest trees’, which include the Nordman Fir, which, according to the association, is the UK’s favourite Christmas tree, representing over 50 percent of sales because of its ‘fresh scent’ and its ability told hold its needles, and the Serbian Spruce, which is popular in central Europe because of its ‘sleek profile’, which compliments a ‘modern minimalist space’.

The fact sheet also contains tree care advice and a section called ‘Top Tips for Recycling your Tree’. Tips include saving the needles from the Christmas tree to create potpourri by mixing the dried needles with cinnamon sticks and whole cloves; chipping the tree in the spring to use as mulch for trees and shrubs; planting the tree to create a habitat for wildlife; or simply calling the council to ask about their recycling scheme.

The association said that consumers should always pay attention to ‘Christmas Tree TLC’, by checking that the needles are not dull and dried up when they are buying the tree, keeping the tree outside in water until it’s ready to go into the house, cutting half an inch off the butt to open the pores, and keeping the tree away from direct heat to prevent it from drying out.
