Peak body representing the horticulture trade advocates for market access improvements and sustainability in international supply chains
Advocacy for the interests of Australian horticulture exporters and importers in a rapidly evolving global market for fresh products is crucial to ensuring the industry can remain competitive and grow our horticulture trade.
Australian Horticulture Trade (AHT) is the peak industry body advocating for market access improvements and sustainability in international supply chains. Through constructive engagement with government agencies and other industry bodies influencing the operating environment, AHT’s aim is to create and maintain effective systems where our members can compete fairly and efficiently in international trade.
A central component of AHT’s role involves close collaboration and partnership development with other peak industry bodies and Commonwealth agencies. These partnerships are instrumental in government agencies and other industry bodies understanding the issues our members encounter when supplying products via the border control processes they manage or influence. Whether it is modernising and streamlining regulatory system compliance requirements, pursuing market access opportunities, responding to biosecurity issues or meeting new international trading conditions, AHT is dedicated to ensuring member perspectives and interests are incorporated into the design and implementation of new systems.
A core AHT function is monitoring border clearance issues and maintaining an open line of communication with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) on how member businesses are being impacted. By maintaining this information exchange, AHT ensures concerns are promptly brought to the attention of DAFF, enabling timely interventions and resolutions. This often delivers benefits to the members and better services delivery by DAFF through all parties working together and identifying mutually beneficial improvements. The strength of AHT lies in its members. Our membership base includes Australian exporters, importers, growers, packhouses, freight forwarders, industry representative bodies, plant breeders, shipping and logistics companies in horticulture supply chains. Overseas companies or organisations may also join.
Members gain access to a wealth of resources, including industry insights, regulatory updates, and networking opportunities. They also benefit from our advocacy efforts, which aim to create a favourable trading environment and address the specific needs of the horticultural sector.
As we look to the future, AHT is committed to its frontline advocacy efforts as the peak body representing the horticulture trade.
