The purpose-built system offers complete washdown capability and sophisticated gpVision software to detect size, colour and defects, setting new standards for food safety and efficiency in blueberry processing
GP Graders has announced the release of its new fully sanitary-designed sorting and grading machine for blueberries.
Described by the post-harvest grading and sorting technology specialist as a first of its kind in the industry, the machine delivers ”a new level of food safety, efficiency, and precision to blueberry growers and packers worldwide”.
The company stated that, unlike competitive machines which are often modified cherry systems reliant on water fluming, GP Graders’ new machine is purpose-built for blueberries.
The dry-handling design ensures delicate berries are processed with care, avoiding damage while maximising throughput and accuracy, it explained.
The standout feature of the system, GP Graders said, is its completely sanitary design, enabling operators to perform a full washdown after use.
“With easy access to all components for cleaning and maintenance, packers benefit from reduced downtime and greater confidence in meeting the world’s most stringent food safety standards,” the group outlined.
At the core of the machine is GP Graders’ advanced gpVision software and vision system, capable of identifying size, colour, hydration, skin tears, cuts, marks, and a wide range of other defects.
This ensures that only premium-quality fruit reaches the consumer, while off-grades are diverted for secondary markets, reducing waste and increasing returns.
“This machine is a true game-changer for the blueberry industry,” said Stuart Payne, director of GP Graders.
“It’s not just an adaptation of existing technology – it’s purpose-built for blueberries, designed to be fully sanitary, and equipped with the most advanced defect detection available.”
GP Graders said that with this innovation, it ”reaffirms its reputation as a pioneer in fresh produce technology”, offering smarter, cleaner, and more efficient solutions that help growers and packers stay competitive in a demanding global marketplace.
The company recently expanded operations into Peru and Mexico ensuring its continued drive into South and North America via its Chilean office.
