Mastronardi Produce has unveiled a new sustainable packaging system for its range of snacking tomatoes. Made from recycled materials, the Eco Flavor Bowl uses top seal technology to lock in flavor and is 100 per cent recyclable.
“A lot of research goes into our packaging designs,” said Giuseppe Rubino, director of packaging at Mastronardi Produce. “Right now, consumers are looking for sustainable packaging that meets the needs of families. The Eco Flavor Bowl is the perfect size and format for snacking, serving and entertaining, all while reducing your carbon footprint.”
The bowl is sealed with a high graphic film which uses up to 20 per cent less material than traditional clamshells. The company claimed the system is extremely user friendly as it’s easy to peel and the design allows consumers to see as much of the product as possible.
The design, which has been named a finalist in the packaging category at this year’s United Fresh New Produce Awards, will initially be available for Mastronardi’s Sunset-branded Angel Sweet, Splendido, Zima and Wild Wonders tomatoes.
