Chilean cranberries could soon be heading to the US following the publication of the conclusion of a pest risk analysis by the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (Aphis) last week.
It has concluded that the application of one or more of the following phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing plant pests, these measures being that the imports must be in commercial consignments only; that they are subject to inspection at the port of entry and that they are accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by Chile’s plant protection authority.
Aphis has opened up a consultation period running until 11 May, after which imports will be authorised subject to the above criteria.
