Guatemala recognises top exporters

Six Guatemalan companies, including fresh produce groups, have been awarded top gongs for their services to the export industry

Vegetable grower-exporter Det Pon has been crowned Guatemalan Exporter of the Year 2008 at a recent awards ceremony for its production, export and marketing of fresh speciality vegetables under the Pakil Awal brand.

Held in Guatemala City on 15 October, the ceremony, hosted by the Guatemalan Exporters Association (Agexport), also recognised La Corporación Bananera El Pilar as the country’s leading new exporter for its expanding banana business.

Cooperativa Agrícola Integral Chirripec, a black tea producer organisation with 293 members, including 109 women, was awarded the Rural Partnership accolade, while refrigeration services supplier Foguel de Centroamerica beat other finalists to the top spot within the 20 Years Exporting category.

In other categories, the Innovation award went to Transactel Guatemala, with Exim Inelco winning the Export Alliance gong.

A special recognition was also awarded to La Agencia de Cooperación Danesa for the company’s support and services to the Guatemalan export sector in general.
