Texas, US-based produce grower/shipper/importer Progreso has revealed that it is to attack the promotion of onions on two fronts this season, with the launch of a website and the introduction of new produce packaging.
Educating the consumer at the point of purchase its the theme behind the packaging concept, with colour coding by onion type for ease of identification and easy-to-read flavour and use indicators all prominent.
Additionally, each bag features a recipe along with product photography, and covers sweet, red, white and yellow onions, the group said.
The website, www.onionuse.com aims to educate consumers on the vegetable by providing information on the varieties, cooking methods and flavours of onions and answering frequently asked questions.
"Onions are a family legacy for Progreso Produce and we want other families to have positive experiences with onions," said Progreso Produce president Curtis DeBerry. "If we can share our knowledge with consumers we think they will continue to find new ways to enjoy onions like we do."
