A USDA report on Peru's organic production has found that the country exported approximately US$160m worth of organic products in 2007, of which 20 per cent was made up of bananas.

Banana exports for 2007 totalled approximately US$32m, the report said, a 21 per cent increase on 2006, with the US and Europe splitting imports between them. Organic banana production is predicted to rise over the next two years, with growing area predicted to increase by 40 per cent to 7,200ha. Additionally, the US imported US$62,000 worth of organic mangoes from Peru in 2007.
