Blueberries

The Chilean Blueberry Commission is anticipating a 25 per cent growth in blueberry exports when the 2010/11 season gets underway at the end of this year, according to a report by SimFRUIT.

“As a Committee, we’re estimating a growth of at least 25 per cent, which will mean our exports will reach 60,000 tonnes this season,” explained chairman Felipe Juilerrat.

During the 2009/10 season, the Committee’s exports rose by 20 per cent to 50,000 tonnes, down slightly on the pre-season estimate of a 30 per cent increase.

Over the course of the next three seasons, Mr Juillerat said the industry will easily boost shipments to 80,000 tonnes.
