The USDA has ruled fresh rambutan can now be imported from Malaysia and Vietnam provided it is irradiated and meets other phytosanitary requirements.

The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services has found that a pest risk analysis showed irradiation and the suggested phytosanitary measures were sufficient to mitigate any risk of pest incursion to the US, the Packer has reported.

The US mainland already allows irradiated rambutan to be imported from Thailand and Hawaii, while fruit imported from Mexico and Central America does not need to be irradiated.
