An inspection of South Australia's citrus industry by an officer from the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has yielded a positive reaction, according to Andrew Green of the South Australian Citrus Industry Development Board.
Mr Green, an executive director on the board, told ABC News that the official conducted a series of inspections of several Riverland facilities to ensure that standards were being maintained.
'He didn't seem to have too many concerns – in fact he was quite impressed,' Mr Green said, adding that the board was still waiting for the official report on the visit.
'He was very happy to see that the sheds we visited have very, very good traceability systems in place,' he said. 'That's probably the main thing he was interested in checking – to make sure that if something happened, the Japanese Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries would be able to trace it back to the grower involved.'
