In Bulgaria, the area dedicated toorganic agriculture has increased approximately tenfold since 2008, according to the country’s ministry of agriculture and food, Organic-Market.info reported.

The ministry revealed the information at a conference entitled 'Europe Finances Organic Farming' held in Sofia.

Nuts make up an important part of organic production in Bulgaria, in particular walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds, while lavender accounts for some 10 per cent of the country's organic production area.

According to Focus Information Agency, 820 organic farms were active in Bulgaria at the end of 2010, marking an increase of some 75 per cent over 2009.
