punnet

Scottish fruit marketer Angus Soft Fruits has launched what it claims is a “revolutionary” recyclable punnet to house its Good Natured Fruit (GNF) range of strawberries and raspberries that are grown without the use of pesticides.

The new recyclable punnet was developed by Adare, a leading marketing specialist with expertise in developing technical innovations for consumer packaging.

According to Angus, Adare were given a brief to create an environmental solution for packaging soft fruit but had to overcome the difficulty of producing a punnet that was safe for direct food contact and enabled the fruit to last for the fullness of its shelflife.

The result, the companies claim, is one of the first recyclable soft fruit punnets available in the UK today, which is made from wholly sustainable components. The punnet itself is made from UK-sourced cardboard mill off-cuts, while a printed recycled board sleeve featuring a clear film window has been developed to enable customers to view the fruit.

The entire pack can be recycled through the cardboard recycling waste stream, according to the company.

The new packs are now available in all major Sainsbury's and ASDA stores in the UK and at selected Co-operative stores nationwide.
