clementine

Early-season Caffin clementines, grown on the French island of Corsica, have arrived on the mainland in particularly good shape, according to Végétable, with sizes similar to those of 2014.

Volumes of Caffin are expected to be average, in contrast to the Fine de Corse variety, which is expected to see a decline in volume of at least 30 per cent, mainly due to the alternate bearing phenomenon.

Fine de Corse is due for harvesting at the start of November, followed by the organic range from 10 November.

Compared with an average year of 30,000 tonnes, early estimates anticipate a harvest of 20,000 tonnes, of which 95 per cent should be PGI-labelled.
