Italy-based packaging specialist ILIP has achieved an important milestone in the field of safety and hygiene by obtaining BRC/IoP certification, an accreditation standard for food packaging materials.

The company, which has over 40 years’ experience in the manufacture of fruit and vegetable packaging and disposable tableware, says it has always prioritised innovation and product quality, while respecting people and the environment.

“Conformity with the BRC standard,” said Mauro Stipa, export manager for ILIP fruit and vegetable packaging, “is the natural next step in the quality and safety strategy that ILIP has implemented in recent years. Compliance with BRC parameters enables us to confirm our reliability to our partners in European markets where the BRC/IoP standard is now a fundamental requirement for food packaging suppliers”.

Verification in accordance with the BRC/IoP standard is a transparent means of guaranteeing safety, conformity and the competence of food packaging producers. Furthermore, it enables commercial partners to immediately assess a company’s quality according to a single protocol.

The BRC IOP standard requires the adoption of a formal hazard analysis system (HACCP), a documented technical management system and the control of factory standards, products, processes and personnel.

According to Mr Stipa, all ILIP products – from disposable tableware to punnets and trays used for fruit and vegetable packaging – meet precise quality requirements and from now on will also enjoy BRC certification, indicated on each product by means of an easily recognisable logo.

'By complying with British Retail Consortium standards, ILIP is underlining its commitment to continuous improvement as part of a strategy which envisages three levels of certification, while confirming its intention to invest sizeable resources into innovative research and the safety of its products,' he added.
