The area of organic land in Germany grew by 5 per cent in 2008, according to statistics from the German ministry of agriculture, to some 907,786ha, be that 5.4 per cent of total farming land in the country.
The number of organic farmers rose by 6 per cent over the previous year, with the number of organic farms standing at a total of 19,813.
According to the ministry, there were 29,244 companies, including producers, processors and importers, working in the organic sector in 2008.
